Maria Kousis

Maria Kousis is Professor of Sociology and Director of the Centre for Research and Studies at the University of Crete with research interests centering on Social Change, Contentious Politics, Environmental Politics, Bioethics and Southern Europe. She was coordinator of the EC DGXII project ‘Grassroots Environmental Action & Sustainable Development in the Southern European Union’ and partner in European Commission projects including TEA, PAGANINI and MEDVOICES. Her current work focusses on the socio-economic and political dimensions of the 2008 crisis, especially in the context of the GGCRISI (Greek-German Ministries Cooperation), LIVEWHAT (FP7), TransSOL and EURYKA (H2020) projects.

Maria Paschou received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, University of Athens in 2014. She has worked for research projects at the Institute for the Study of Migration and Diaspora (University of Athens), the University of Vienna, and the University of Crete. She is currently participating as Researcher in the FP7 LIVEWHAT and the H2020 TransSol and EURYKA projects, focusing on civil society solidarity initiatives, resilience and collective actions in times of crises.
