In the local and national archival collections, in the "public order" category, there is practically no evidence of protest demonstrations for the bread and the war of which women were protagonists in Terra d'Otranto. This shortcoming is offset by the judicial funds of the State Archives of Lecce and the Central State Archive, which testify to a wide movement of struggle and protest that has started the process of demolishing the domestic barriers of Salentine women. The investigation, already exhaustive, needs to be deepened to understand how spontaneous those demonstrations were and how much they influenced the socialist organizations (neutralist and pacifist) and the parishes (linked to the Vatican's message of peace). What appears to be established is that the women managed to appropriate a role of active presence in the territory they had never had before, thus starting the struggle for their own emancipation.

Nei fondi archivistici locali e nazionali, nella categoria ordine pubblico, non v'è praticamente traccia di manifestazioni di protesta per il pane e contro la guerra di cui furono protagoniste in Terra d'Otranto le donne. Sopperiscono a tale lacuna i fondi giudiziari dell'Archivio di Stato di Lecce e dell'Archivio Centrale dello Stato che ci testimoniano di un ampio movimento di lotta e di protesta che ha avviato il processo di abbattimento delle barriere domestiche delle donne salentine. L'indagine, già esaustiva, va approfondita per comprendere quanto quelle manifestazioni siano state spontanee e quanto abbiano influito sulle stesse le organizzazioni socialiste (neutraliste e pacifiste) e le parrocchie (legate al messaggio di pace del Vaticano). Quello che appare assodato è che le donne riuscirono ad appropriarsi di un ruolo di presenza attiva sul territorio che fino ad allora non avevano mai avuto, avviando così la lotta per la propria emancipazione.
