Modelli di santità veicolati nel Salento in prospettiva antiluterana

One of the preventive strategies used, during and after the Council of Trent, by the prelates of Salento to avert the Lutheran contagion was a renewed stimulus to the cult of the saints. Both those coming from the ranks of the new religious orders, champions of the Catholic Reformation, and the ancient saints, modernized in anti-lutheran function. Civic patronages and iconography of baroque altars and facades still show today - albeit in a veiled form - this intervention.

Una delle strategie preventive poste in atto, durante e dopo il Concilio di Trento, dai presuli salentini per scongiurare il contagio luterano fu un rinnovato stimolo al culto dei santi. Tanto quelli provenienti dalle fila dei nuvi ordini religiosi, campioni della Riforma cattolica, tanto i santi antichi, ammodernizzati in funzione antiluterana. Patronati civici e iconografia di altari e facciate barocche manifestano ancora oggi - seppur in forma velata - questo intervento.
