La compagnia Naftali Botowin e la partecipazione degli ebrei alla guerra civile spagnola (1936-1939)
Abstract
The subject of this essay is the partecipation of Jews in the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War. The number of Jewish volunteers who joined the International Brigades in order to defend the Spanish Republic against Franco and the Nationalist rebels was very high. During the Spanish civil war at least 35.000 volunteers from more than 50 countries went to fight in Spain on the side of the republican government and 5.000 of these volunteers were of Jewish descent. In particolar, the essay deal with Jewish partecipation in the Botwin Company. The Botwin Company, formed in december 1937, was a clear symbol of the Jewish fight against fascism in Spain, and a choice on behalf of its members to fight that battle as Jews
