Da Castro a Ferrandina: un caso greco dell\'acqua-ambienti carsici e toponimi nell\'antica Terra d\'Otranto

Perché “Da Castro a Ferrandina…”?Innanzitutto perché sia Castro sia Ferrandina (materano compreso)facevano parte dell ’antica “Magna Grecia”,poi perché i toponimi da noi analizzati si ritrovano nel territorio delle due città,il quale territorio ha identiche caratteristiche geologiche e morfologiche.I due centri abitati sorgono infatti su colli a preminente caratteristica carsica,con vore,grotte e torrenti d’acqua sia sotterranei che di superficie.Ed è proprio la forte presenza d’acqua, soprattutto sotterranea,che ha determinato il nascere e lo svilupparsi di locuzioni come: pile,vasca di pietra o cisterna scavata nel masso per raccogliere l’acqua; pilulaccu,luogo con grandi cisterne e laccare; pilaccio,piccola pila; cazzamaḍḍu o cugnorivitale,canale basso e umido,torrente; Scarra o Scarrace,luogo collinare e boschivo.Locuzioni le quali hanno dato luogo a toponimi e,di conseguenza,a questo lavoro.

Why “From Castro to Ferrandina…?”First of all because both Castro and Ferrandina (included the territory around Matera)made part of the ancient Magna Graecia ,then because the toponyms we have analysed are situated in the territory of the two cities with the same morphological and geological characteristics.In fact,both the cities rise on hills with a limestone mainly karstic,with caves and super ficial or subterranean water streams.Development of locutions such as: pile,a stone basin or a cistern dug in the mass of stone to gather water;and just the strong presence of water,above all subterranean water,it has determined the birth and the pilulaccu ,a place with big cisterns,and laccare ;pilaccio ,a small basin; cazzamaḍḍu or cugnorivitale,a short and wet stream or channel,Scarra or Scarrace,a woody and hilly place.These locutions gave place to some toponyms and, as a consequence,to the present work.
