L'articolo si propone di interpretare i modi e i luoghi della comicità nell'opera dei Saturnalia dell'autore tardo latino Macrobio. Il pretesto del banchetto, funzionale all'opera di erudizione miscellanea, si connota infatti per associazione di molte plausibili reminiscenze di autori precedenti. Nonostante la frammentarietà dell'opera, le parti comiche sono individuabili nel pomeriggio e si esplicano specialmente in motti (celebri eppure popolari) ma pure in ilarità prodotte dall'eccentricità del lusso (comprensibilmente criticato) in una gara al divertimento moderato che i commensali (per estro dell'autore) non spingono mai verso l'eccesso e la volgarità più oscena.

The article aims to interpret the ways and the places of comicality in the work of the Saturnalia by the late Latin author Macrobius. The pretext of the banquet, functional to this miscellaneous work of erudition, is characterized by association of many plausible reminiscences of previous authors. Despite the fragmentary nature of the work, the comic parts are identified in the afternoon and are expressed expecially by witty remarks (famous though popular) but even by hilarity produced by the eccentricity of luxury (understandably criticized) in a race for a moderate fun that the diners (through the author's inspiration) do not ever carry to the excess and the most obscene vulgarity.
