Il presente contributo nasce dall'obiettivo di valutare l'impatto della diffusione dell'influenza "spagnola" in una regione, la Sicilia, apparentemente periferica rispetto all'Italia delle trincee, ma fortemente impegnata nello sforzo bellico a tal punto che si è parlato di "una frontiera senza trincee". L'attenzione si è focalizzata sulle politiche sanitarie e la profilassi messe in campo per fronteggiare l'emergenza nelle varie realtà provinciali isolane, senza trascurare al contempo di gettare lo sguardo verso quell'insieme di atteggiamenti, pratiche e opinioni adottate dai segmenti popolari.

This paper aims to assess the impact of the spread of the "Spanish" flu in a region, Sicily, seemingly peripheral to the Italy of the trenches, yet so heavily engaged in the war effort that it has been described as "a frontier without trenches." Attention is focused on the health policies and prophylaxis implemented to address the emergency in the island's various provincial areas, while also examining the complex set of attitudes, practices, and opinions adopted by popular segments.
