Sacred compositions represent, in the band music repertoire between the 19th and 20th centuries, a particularly interesting genre that reflects, on the one hand, the directives issued by the Catholic Church regarding music and, at the same time, changing tastes, highlighting a dense network of exchanges and relationships with other musical genres. Bands also became a major player in paraliturgical music, especially that associated with local worship. The musical documents preserved in the Library of the "Tito Schipa" Conservatory in Lecce offer an interesting insight into the band's repertoire and functions in sacred settings.

Le composizioni sacre rappresentano, nel repertorio di musica per banda tra Ottocento e Novecento, un genere di particolare interesse che rispecchia, da una parte, le direttive emanate dalla Chiesa cattolica riguardo alla musica e, allo stesso tempo, il mutare del gusto, evidenziando una fitta rete di scambi e relazioni con altri generi musicali. Le bande, inoltre, divengono uno dei principali protagonisti della musica paraliturgica, specialmente quella legata al culto locale.
