Abstract

The essay analyzes the choices of international politics of the Italian Socialist Party in the first years after the Second World War. It was the only socialist party in Western Europe that carried out a policy of alliance and unity of action with the communists. In this context, the article describes the role of the PSI in the debate concerning Italy's accession to the Atlantic Pact. The research reveals the contradictions that led to the international isolation of the PSI but also to a minority ideological position within the party that did not like rigid ties with the communists.
